Starting On An Instrument!
Starting on an instrument can be both exciting and scary (especially for parents). The good news is that I will help you!
Choosing an instrument is a guided process with which we start the 6th grade year. Students will have the opportunity to hold each instrument and try almost every mouthpiece. I will then give a recommendation and the family has the final decision.
Then you get the instrument - here are the steps:
1. Visit or call a Local Music Store (found in the handbook and on this website) to find out the rental price. If that is affordable for the family, that is the best way to start. Rental instruments are replaced considerably more often than school instruments so they are newer.
2. If renting an instrument is not a financial option for your family, a school instrument can be leased free of charge. Please send a note saying "we cannot afford to rent an instrument at this time." Additional details of why you cannot afford it are not necessary.
3. Finally, get the Required Supplies (including Standards of Excellence Book 1, 1 1/2" Binder and Instrument Supplies which are dependent on the selected instrument) and you are ready to ROCK!
PLEASE TRY TO HAVE ALL SUPPLIES IN BY THE BEGINNING OF THE THIRD WEEK OF SCHOOL.
